every dog should be spoiled

Today, many bloggers are getting together and posting to stop abuse. Abuse of all kind, but each will most likely pick one that is dear to them. Since my blog is about happy dogs, I think you know where I’m headed.

I’ve never understood how anyone can hurt an animal unless they are going to eat it. Actually, most who hunt kill as quickly and as painlessly as possible. Those who ignore, kick, deny food, burn and other horrendous actions toward pets and other animals are weak. They take all their anger out on something that has nothing to do with the person’s unhappiness or misfortune.

One of my favorite ‘stop the abuse’ stories is my friend Carla’s dog, JD. She came to Carla from a friend who rescued her from two drunk guys who tied her to tree, starved her and threw empty beer bottles at her repeatedly. Now what in heck did JD do to deserve that? When I first met JD, she was very shy, stayed right next to Carla and wouldn’t let a soul near either of them. After years of weekend trips to the beach – and romps with her brother Kane and TempTide – JD is a happy, well adjusted, SWEET dog. It’s amazing how she’s turned out.

What would have happened to her if that lady hadn’t sneaked back after midnight to save JD from the abuse she witnessed earlier in the day?

I absolutely love hearing happy endings to stories like that. I volunteer at the local humane society and I see so many victims of that kind of abuse everyday and it is just so rewarding to see them go to wonderful homes!!

In my visits to dog beach, I meet all sorts of lucky dogs who were rescued by wonderful people. It’s such a great thing to see.
